Back In Motion employs over 300 staff across Australia.
Here's what some of our staff have to say about working with Back In Motion.
IAN TRAN – PRACTICE DIRECTOR & PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Describe your journey with Back In Motion.
I first heard about the Back In Motion Health Group about six years ago when a colleague mentioned she had a close friend who was working within the group and achieving great success. At the time I was just starting out in private practice and did not give it much thought. In hindsight, I feel I should have given it more consideration.
I joined Back In Motion with an existing practice and underwent a re-brand and relocation.
In the short time I have been with Back In Motion, my career has gone from providing myself a job to that of providing myself a profitable and highly developed business. In short I have progressed from letting my clinic ‘run me down’, to a position where I am able to run a successful and profitable business.
What are the three best things about being part of Back In Motion?
It has been the opportunity to meet amazingly motivated, skilled and acutely intelligent individuals who inspire passion and personal growth.
The ability to leverage the skill and expertise of dedicated teams of professionals at National Support Office such as the marketing department, accounting team and business development managers to help me achieve more than I ever could have on my own.
Being a part of a group some fifty like minded practice directors who are never too busy to provide support and answer questions that I may be facing.
What do you think makes Back In Motion an employer of choice?
Defined career pathways that allow prospective employees a clear and concise direction for what they would like to achieve.
One of the most financially rewarding remuneration packages to staff, that also addresses professional and personal development.
The opportunity to learn from over 300 other staff to help improve your clinical skills. For example, I was able to allow my staff to observe highly trained Pilates instructors from other practices running classes to help improve their own skills. I also participate in monthly professional development training with four other practices in close proximity which allows us to pay for leading physiotherapists in various areas of expertise to come and personally present to our staff. This includes people such as orthopaedic surgeons, AFL physiotherapists, university lecturers as well as international motivational speakers.
What would you say to someone who is considering joining Back In Motion?
As an employee, I would actually pose to them the question, “Why would you not want to work with BACK IN MOTION?”
To prospective practice directors, I would say “Consider the benefits you could gain from joining a successful group as it continues to grow, because I sure wish I did 7 years ago”. I am now more enthused and passionate about my work, my staff and my business than I have ever been in my career.
What do you think BACK IN MOTION can offer its people over and above other employers (private and public sector considered)?
Being an employee in both the private and public sector, I can honestly say I have yet to encounter a business/organisation that has as much passion, integrity, drive and sense of togetherness as the Back In Motion Health Group.
Back In Motion offers the individual the opportunity to not only addresses the financials of your practice, but also addresses the areas of leadership and personal growth which I have not encountered outside of the group. For me, this is the complete package and has so far provided me with more opportunities and enthusiasm than I could have imagined about my work.

JODIE DOWNES – PRACTICE DIRECTOR & PRACTICE MANAGER
Describe your journey with Back In Motion.
My journey started nearly five years ago, a close friend knew I needed a job and had to get out of a very unhappy, unsupported, sometimes aggressive workplace. My physio friend told me how fantastic her workplace was and that they needed a new receptionist. As it happens the role was actually a Practice Manager role. I applied for the role and before I knew it, I was enrolled in the Iceberg Institute Leadership Master class. I haven’t looked back.
I couldn't believe I was joining what looked like such a brilliant opportunity. As a single mum of two little girls at the time I didn't think I would ever have the opportunity of one day being a Director and an owner of a business that was part of a national franchise.
Since starting work in the practice I am now part owner of, I have gone through a practice move and fit out and have watched many practices join the group. Being part of the Back In Motion South Australian network from its beginning has been a real honour and has been very exciting. From day one, it was my goal to be a practice owner and I am so thrilled I have achieved that.
What are the best three things about being part of Back In Motion?
I think the best three things about being part of Back In Motion are the support from my team , the opportunity to be involved in such a rewarding, expanding group and the opportunity to make a difference in so many people’s lives (staff and patients).
What do you think makes Back In Motion an employer of choice?
After years of working for private and public industry, I have never worked for such a rewarding, supportive group. No matter what you are experiencing whether good or bad there is always someone there to help, support, congratulate, celebrate or encourage within my practice crew or the state or even the nation. I have never felt I couldn't ring the National Support Office or any other practice within any state and not get 100% help every time, no matter what I need. I have always offered the same back happily.
What would you say to someone who is considering joining Back In Motion?
What would I say to someone wanting to join? Do you want to get up each day and enjoy going to work and be actually able to tell people you are one of those rare people that actually loves their job, work mates and patients. Love your job and it never feels like work. That is what I have every day.
What do you think Back In Motion can offer its people over and above other employers (private and public sector considered)?
Back In Motion offers more training, support and opportunities then I have seen or been able to experience. We go above and beyond for our patients, staff and workmates and as an employer I think we offer more than most employers. There is no stopping anyone - they all could be owners, trainers, teachers anything they want and more. You don't have to be a physio to become a leader in Back In Motion as I have proven.
Back In Motion has really changed my life at a time when I was looking for a change and I have grown and experienced more then I can ever really express. I am excited for the future and wish more people could experience it and hope they do.
SCOTT COOK – PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Describe your journey with Back In Motion.
I first heard of Back In Motion when I read a flier on a university noticeboard in the final few months of my degree.
When I had completed my degree I applied for and attended many job interviews as I was determined to find the ‘right fit’. I was offered five very different positions (public, private and community) and decided that Back In Motion was for me. Back In Motion’s recruitment process both challenged and impressed me. I joined Back In Motion as a clinical graduate and in 18 months have progressed into a clinical associate position where I am mentoring other physiotherapists.

TIM SAUNDERS – PRACTICE DIRECTOR & PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Describe your journey with Back In Motion.
I joined Back In Motion as a new graduate after being exposed to the group in more depth at a careers expo at Melbourne University. I was vastly impressed by the professionalism, structure and cutting-edge best practice of the group, and thought that it was far ahead of any other private sector physiotherapy company in the state. I learnt of a structured career progression program within Back In Motion that I didn’t know existed in our world of private practice, and have since progressed from a Clinical Associate, to Clinical Services Co-ordinator and am now embarking on a journey as Practice Director and Principal of a brand new Back In Motion practice in Alphington, Victoria.
What are the best three things about being part of Back In Motion?
It’s not easy to narrow it down to the three best! Amongst my top things are:
- Being part of a group with over 30+ primary locations and hundreds of professional staff, I can draw on an extraordinary number of experiences and tested methods to get the optimal outcomes for my patients, staff and practice.
- The support and expertise from the National Support Office is invaluable. To have experts actively available to support and further all aspects of my individual clinic and group as a whole is unprecedented anywhere else in our health industry.
- Having the backing and recognition of a loved and trusted brand dedicated to servicing the health needs of our community further promotes the credibility of our practice and is continuing to improve the awareness and engagement from the public of physiotherapists as a whole.
What do you think makes Back In Motion an employer of choice?
Without a doubt, the support and mentoring given to employees, both clinical and administrative, is paramount to improving job satisfaction, meeting career goals and both professional and personal development. Not only do we undertake weekly (at least) formal sessions with employees, we also regularly have individual mentoring sessions (which can include anything from clinical topics to leadership development), have external experts give presentations (another perk of being with such a large group) and furthermore provide funding for staff to participate in courses. As an employee, I found this support invaluable to fast tracking my professional and personal knowledge, allowing me to be far ahead of what I had even dreamed of at this stage of my career.
What would you say to someone who is considering joining Back In Motion?
Come and meet us! Have a talk to the team at the National Support Office, and drop into any one of our practices just to see first-hand what makes Back In Motion the leading provider of physiotherapy services in Australia. The range of services provided to clients, the customer-focus and the expert support given to both employees and employers alike is un-matched in the health industry in Australia, and is something that has to be experienced to be believed.
What do you think Back In Motion can offer its people over and above other employers (private and public sector considered)?
As a private sector group, we have the people power to match any public physiotherapy group in terms of support, peer-knowledge and experience. In this regard, no private sector employer can even come close to this. Everyone has an opportunity to progress their career in a number of different, individual and flexible ways. Career progression opportunities are for both physiotherapy (both clinical and management) and administrative employees. Importantly, all staff members are employees. That means no-one is left unsupported as a sub-contractor, the way of many private physiotherapy practices in Australia. I have found that this really promotes a team culture and hence I have loved my work since joining the group four years ago. Furthermore, this supports all staff via the perks of being an employee through a financial structure un-paralleled anywhere else. Overall, I love being part of Back In Motion, and recommend for everyone to come and experience us first hand!
