Back in Motion Mitcham is focused on providing a holistic approach to well being. Our objective is to deliver Results 4 Life through addressing the underlying cause of a problem, not just its symptoms.

Back in Motion Mitcham is a new, purpose-built physiotherapy facility. The practice features six professionally finished consultation rooms and a spacious studio for rehab, personal training, Pilates and clinical Pilates.

Our skilled physiotherapists specialise in management of sports and spinal injuries, as well as women's health. Practitioners pride themselves on being at the forefront of the latest research; their treatments and rehabilitation therapies are delivered in accordance with current evidence-based protocols. Our clinical expertise, coupled with our friendly practice staff, promise to give you a wonderful Back in Motion experience.

Classes

Muscles in Motion (pilates)

Duration: 60mins Max 8 Participants An intensive Pilates workout program tailored to help you achieve your goals by using Pilates equipment such as the Reformer, as well as incorporating floor work into the session. The class is a small group consisting of no more than 8, ensuring constant supervision and guidance from your Physiotherapist. To start your Pilates routine, please contact our clinic to arrange a pre-class free assessment.

Semi Private Pilates

Duration: 40 minutes Max 2-4 Participants An intensive Pilates workout program tailored to help you achieve your goals by using Pilates equipment such as the Reformer, as well as incorporating floor work into the session. The class is a small group consisting of no more than 4, ensuring constant supervision and guidance from your Physiotherapist. Mums in Motion

Duration: 60 minutes Max 6-8 Participants Free assessment and introductory Class For pregnant ladies on the go! This class involves Pilates and Cardio exercises aimed to maintain and improve aerobic fitness and strengthen muscle groups affected by pregnancy, such as the pelvic floor and abdominal muscles. They also include education on such things as back care and posture

Mums and Bubs

Duration: 60 minutes Max 6-8 Participants Free assessment and introductory Class For new mums wanting to get back into Pilates and Fitness. Exercise safely after birth in a Physiotherapy run class that incorporates your baby! In addition to improving generalized strength and flexibility, core stability, pelvic floor tone and fitness, exercising with your baby can be a bonding experience and provides movement experience that helps your baby’s development. It’s also a great way to meet new mums and get physiotherapy advice on common post-natal problems and lifting techniques.

Aquatic Physiotherapy (Hydrotherapy)

Duration: 30-50mins Max 8 Participants This class utilises the properties of water to assist in your recovery via an individually tailored exercise program designed by your Back in Motion Physiotherapist. All Aquatic Physiotherapy classes comprise both of group and individual work, with constant supervision from your Physiotherapist.   • Shivam Prakash - Practice Director

    Shivam Prakash - Practice Director

    Shiv studied Physiotherapy at Melbourne University and has developed a keen interest in Spinal Physiotherapy, Sports Physiotherapy and Chronic Pain Management. Shiv prides himself on keeping up to date with the very latest research and techniques to ensure a consistently high level of patient care. He has completed several additional courses, such as dry needling, gym rehabilitation and Pilates techniques. Socially, Shiv is involved in soccer, cricket and Kung Fu. An exercise fanatic, he will also be spotted on the running track or in the gym each day. Shiv has embraced his ‘inner nerd’; he is a movie buff with a love of computer games and reading. The best way to understand Shiv’s dedication to Physiotherapy is that he views his work as a lifestyle choice, not a job. He loves meeting new people and helping them achieve their individual goals.

  • Krishna Prakash - Physiotherapist

    Krishna Prakash - Physiotherapist

    Krishna brings to the clinic 7 years of clinical experience having worked in orthopaedics as a senior physiotherapist at Maroondah Hospital, as well as working at sports medicine clinics throughout Melbourne. Having provided services to state representative teams at nationals in Soccer and Hockey, Krishna is also currently working his way through a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy at La Trobe University. He has travelled extensively - working in the UK for 2 years, and utilise various techniques including Dry Needling and Pilates. Krishna is a keen soccer player and sports fanatic, he’ll be hoping his Hawks can win him a premiership this year! When he’s not working Krishna will be found watching more sport or working on his house

  • Sofi Petropoulos - Practice Manager

    Sofi Petropoulos - Practice Manager

    Sofi joined the team at Back in Motion Mitcham in 2012 after having her second child. Previously working in Administration in both the public and private sectors, she enjoys greeting clients with her warm and caring nature, and enjoys having a friendly chat. Sofi was also a former patient with Back In Motion  and when the opportunity arose to join the team at Mitcham, she put her hand up enthusiastically. Outside of work, her interests include photography, reading and spending time outdoors, especially down the beach in summer, with her two very active boys, as well as participating in the Pilates classes at Mitcham.

  • Bronwyn Allan-  Physiotherapist

    Bronwyn Allan- Physiotherapist

    Bronwyn completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of Melbourne, and has since spent time travelling and working within different Aged Care and Private Practice environments.

    Bronwyn has a keen interest in knee and ankle conditions due to years of these injuries herself, having played competitive netball and basketball for most of her life. She is also passionate about Clinical Pilates, and the benefits of integrating it into the holistic management of musculoskeletal conditions for long term injury prevention.
    Her love of travel has seen her backpacking through Europe, South East Asia, New Zealand, the USA, as well as South America, where she spent some time working at a physiotherapy clinic in Buenos Aires.

    Outside of work, Bronwyn loves sport and fitness of all kinds, playing basketball and netball several times a week, and regularly attending her local gym. She is a passionate Hawthorn supporter, and can be found at the MCG most weekends cheering her Hawks on.

  • Nicole Tang- Physiotherapist

    Nicole Tang- Physiotherapist

    Nicole completed her Doctor of Physiotherapy degree at the University of Melbourne, and has experience working in both hospital and private practice environments, including overseas clinical experience in the U.S.A. She has a keen interest in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Clinical Pilates and Women’s Health. She is a qualified APPI Pilates Instructor, and also has experience as a sports trainer.

    Outside of work, Nicole enjoys staying active, going for regular runs, and playing tennis with her friends. Growing up, her main sport interests were basketball and tennis, and she has captained and coached tennis teams. Her other interests include food, baking and travelling.

    Samson Leung- Physiotherapist

    Samson joined the Back In Motion team in early 2014, coming from Darwin and completing his Bachelor of physiotherapy at James Cook University in Townsville.  He enjoys working in a private practice setting and is eager to learn new skills in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

    He has a passion to provide the best possible treatment and advice to everyone using evidence based practice from the latest research. Having injured himself in the past, he strives to make every Back In Motion experience a gratifying journey towards your short and long term goals.

    Born in Darwin and living in Queensland, Samson enjoys both codes of football as a proud Essendon Bombers and a Queensland Reds supporter. He enjoys getting involved in many sports including swimming, AFL, touch football, and rugby union. In his spare time you will find Samson at local games either watching or getting involved.

  • Karan Grewal- Physiotherapist

    Karan Grewal- Physiotherapist

    Karan is a physiotherapist who joins us from the “Land of Long white clouds”. His passion for health drove him to gain his Bachelors of Physiotherapy from Auckland University of Technology. During his time in Victoria, he has worked in several different aged care settings having a big focus on improvement of quality of life. He now aims to bring that focus to the private practice setting, aiming to aid clients in achieving their both short term and long term goals. He is an ardent learner, always looking to improve his manual and clinical skills. Apart from work, Karan tries to stay active most days of the week by occupying himself in various physical activities including gym, sports, swimming. He loves socialising and enjoys meeting new faces. Karan is a keen explorer and plans to visit all the unique and wonderful things Australia has to offer.

    Rebecca Brown - Receptionist

    Rebecca joined the Back In Motion team in March 2012, working part time as she is also completing a Bachelor of Physiotherapy herself at Monash University. Upon completing her degree Rebecca is interested in developing a career in the field of paediatric Physiotherapy. When she is not studying, Rebecca enjoys playing netball, spending time with her friends and family and hopes to pursue a new found love of travel in the future after spending most of her summer travelling around America and loving every minute of it!

  • Tegan Bisset - Receptionist

    Tegan Bisset - Receptionist

    Tegan joined the Back In Motion team after seeing the advertisement on her University website. Tegan is the friendly face you see when you walk in the front door of our clinic. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours at Monash University. Tegan hopes to become a specialist in Sports physiotherapy and Women’s Health on the completion of her degree. She is currently the Club Trainer at Murrumbeena Junior Football Club. In her spare time Tegan likes to play netball, read and when she has the money, she loves to travel! Having just come back from a summer spent in South East Asia she hopes to travel more once her degree is completed. Tegan is very excited to be part of the Back In Motion team and is looking forward to learning about the physiotherapy industry at such a professional and innovative Health Group

    Vera Boon- Receptionist

    Vera joined the team at Back In Motion Mitcham in September 2013, having previously worked in both administrative and healthcare roles. When the opportunity arose to work at Mitcham, Vera, a former client, saw the chance to merge the best of both worlds. She is excited about the opportunity to be a friendly face to BIM Mitcham’s clients! Currently studying a Bachelor of Science and a concurrent Diploma in Languages of French, she is hoping to move further into the healthcare industry after completing her undergraduate studies. Out of work hours, Vera's interests include finding new amazing restaurants, going to the movies or spending time outdoors with family and friends. To stay active, she likes all and any kinds of dancing, having started ballet lessons at a young age, and really wishes she had a puppy to go running with!

    Hayley Schmiedel- Receptionist

    Hayley joined Back in Motion in 2013, and is currently attending Swinburne Senior Secondary Collage. She hopes to pursue a career somewhere in the medical field. In her free time Hayley enjoys playing netball, running, socializing with friends ect. At school Hayley thoroughly enjoys art and also science. In 2012 she was selected into a program called KCYP to walk the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea. It also entitled 6 months community service which involved construction houses, gardening, running events and raising money. Hayley loves meeting new people and having a conversation, so don’t be shy to come over and have a chat!

    Leah Barker- Receptionist

     Leah joined the Back in Motion team in September 2013 as an administration assistant and receptionist. Working part time, she is currently competing her degree of a Bachelor of Business in sports management at Deakin University. In her spare time Leah loves catching up with her family and friends, cooking and spending as much time as possible keeping active and getting outdoors. She is looking to complete her degree by the end of 2014 and travel overseas to Europe and America in the future.
