Classes
Semi-Private Pilates (SMPL)
Duration: 40 minutes
A progression from 1 on 1 sessions after you have a basic understanding of the use of the Pilates reformer, the ability to contract your deep core muscles from a Real Time Ultrasound demonstration. A novice to intermediate class for those wanting to perfect the basic Pilates skills and those with some rehabilitation goals. You can progress through the symptomatic relief and towards injury prevention to health and fitness all in the one Pilates class type. Or the SMPL can be designed as an intensive Pilates workout program tailored to help you achieve your goals by using Pilates equipment such as the to Reformer as well as incorporating floor work into the session. The class is a small group consisting of 2 and no more than 4, ensuring constant supervision and guidance from your Physiotherapist. Re-assessments at regular 6 week intervals will ensure you are continually gaining benefit from your program when you first start. For further information, call our clinic to book your assessment.
Pilates In Motion (Advanced Group Pilates)
Duration: 60 minutes.
An advanced Pilates class utilising reformers for those that have progressed beyond the SMPL repertoire and looking for the next challenge and progression. A class of 6 to 8 people designed to improve your flexibility, core strength, balance, tone and your neck, back and shoulder posture. By performing resistance exercises with Pilates reformers using ‘low weight’ and ‘high reps’, this effectively tones your upper and lower body FAST! If your posture needs improving and you want to tone your body up, or you just need to increase your exercise level and feel challenged. Aquatic Physiotherapy
(Hydrotherapy)
Duration: 40 minutes
This class utilizes the properties of water to assist in your recovery via an individually tailored exercise program designed by your Back in Motion Physiotherapist. All Aquatic Physiotherapy classes comprise both of group and individual work, with constant supervision from your Physiotherapist. Re-assessments at regular 6 week intervals will ensure you are continually gaining benefit from your program. Mums N Bubs
Duration: 40 minutes.
For new mums wanting to get back into Pilates and Fitness. Exercise safely after birth in a Physiotherapy run class that incorporates your baby! In addition to improving generalized strength and flexibility, core stability, pelvic floor tone and fitness, exercising with your baby can be a bonding experience and provides movement experience that helps your baby’s development. It’s also a great way to meet new mums and get physiotherapy advice on common post-natal problems and lifting techniques. Re-assessments at regular 6 week intervals will ensure you are continually gaining benefit from your program. David Spithill – Principal Physiotherapist
David originally headed the team at Back In Motion St Helena, before the practice relocated to Montmorency.
David comes with an extensive knowledge and interest in:
- Pilates for rehabilitation and fitness
- Musculoskeletal and Sports physiotherapy of the spine, pelvis, knees and shoulders.David is currently heavily involved with local elite junior AFL team The Northern Knights U/18’s Squad in the TAC Cup as their Rehabilitation Coordinator. David is also involved with North East Blaze VNL Netball Club as their game day physiotherapist to their U/19 through to their Championship teams.
In his spare time, David enjoys spending time with his family, playing football and watching or being involved in sport.

Maggie Chu - Senior Practice Manager
Maggie joined Back in Motion Montmorency in July 2012 and comes from a background of medical and dental practice management. Maggie moved to Melbourne from Perth in 2009 and can be heard whinging about the horrible Melbourne weather and cranking up the heating. In her spare time, Maggie can be found indoor rock climbing, snowboarding, snoozing in the sun or hitting her up roots of being an IT graduate and playing games on the wii, pc or playstation.

Brooke James - Practice Manager
I am the Practice Manager here at Back In Motion, and also a qualified Beauty Therapist. In my spare time I like to do my Beauty Therapy treatments from home, catch up with friends, and go down to the beach. I have travelled to 17 countries including those in Europe and South America.

Marty Ayres – Clinical Services Coordinator (Physiotherapist)
A local to Montmorency, Marty brings fresh ideas and a passion for sport physiotherapy and healthy living to Back In Motion Montmorency. His focus is on retraining and injury prevention.
In his spare time you may find him at Greensborough Hockey Club, Eltham Collegians Football Club or Eltham YMCA.

Dawn Cantwell – Clinical Services Coordinator (Physiotherapist)
A recent addition to the Montmorency team, Dawn hails from Ireland where she was heavily involved with provincial rugby and gaelic football. She has a keen interest in all things sports related as well as biomechanical movement analyses, functional rehabilitation and orthopaedics. She is currently involved with the North East Blaze Netball club in the VNL as a team physiotherapist. Dawn is commencing post graduate studies in manipulation through Curtin university in February 2012. In her spare time Dawn plays gaelic football and enjoys running, watching sports and getting to know Australia!

Ari Pianta - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)
Ari graduated from La Trobe 2010 and has worked his first year in large public hospital, specialising in musculoskeletal assessment, treatment and rehabilitation. During this time Ari looked for the next challenge and joined the BIM team with a part time role at BIM in mid 2011 and has now come onboard full time for 2012.
Ari has experience in emergency department and orthopaedic rehabilitation throughout a variety of age groups. In his spare time Ari is a keen skier, surfer (season dependent) and has a long history in basketball.
HIs philosophy is a strong emphasis in client focused therapy/empowering clients throughout treatment. -
Louise Mansell – Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)
Louise joins our team having previously worked for many years as a massage therapist prior to studying physiotherapy in Western Australia. During that time Louise worked with many sporting teams including the Western Force, Wallabies, NSW cricket team as well as local sporting teams, swimmers, tri-athletes and office workers. Louise’s sporting background includes Horse Riding and Freestyle Martial Arts, having achieved her 2nd Dan Black Belt in Western Australia. She is also often found at the gym or walking her dogs. Yes, Chihuahua’s are dogs. Upon relocating to Melbourne, Louise joined the BIM team at Montmorency.
Louise has a keen interest in Massage, Sports Physiotherapy and Women’s Health. -
Mathew Munro– Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)
After studying Sport & Exercise Science in Launceston and Physiotherapy in Sydney, Mat returned home in 2012 to the best state in our country and joined the Back In Motion Montmorency team. He has a passion for helping his clients achieve their goals, return to full function and prevent future injuries. Mat’s love for physiotherapy grew over the years due to his past involvement in swimming and football (where he endured many injuries!).
In his spare time he can be found playing footy, swimming or trying to avoid chocolate which he has a disturbing addiction to! -

Steph Chiocci – Receptionist
Steph is currently studying Applied Science (specialising in physical education) at university, with the aim of becoming a secondary school teacher.
She is a fanatic Carlton supporter and has been playing women’s football for the past 5 years for Diamond Creek. She has also represented Victoria in the state carnival twice and was named in the All Australian Team both times.

Mary joined Back In Motion Montmorency after many years of experience in the private hospital and health setting.
She works part time, so that she can spend time with her two young grandchildren to be a near full time nana.

Natalie Stepan – Receptionist
Nat joins the Montmorency team with a passion for health and wellbeing that she is currently pursuing through her studies in Physiotherapy at La Trobe.
An avid traveller, she loves learning languages, being outdoors and believes that dessert should be a part of every meal!

Jason Durand - Receptionist
Jason is currently studying Exercise Science at Victoria University & hopes to go on to do his masters in Physiotherapy after graduating, with a strong focus in Paediatrics.
He believes that working within the clinic is an invaluable way to learn what goes on behind the scenes and is the best way to get ahead before he becomes a Physiotherapist himself.
