Classes

Pilates in Motion

A class designed to improve your neck, back and shoulder posture. By performing resistance exercises with Pilates twist using ‘low weight’ and ‘high reps’, this effectively tones your upper and lower body FAST! If your posture needs improving and you want to tone your body up, or you just need to increase your exercise level and feel challenged. Mums in Motion

For new & expectant mums wanting to get into Pilates and Fitness. Exercise safely both before & after birth in a Physiotherapy run class where you are welcome to bring your baby! In addition to improving generalised strength and flexibility, core stability, pelvic floor tone and fitness, it’s also a great way to meet new mums and get physiotherapy advice on common post-natal problems and lifting techniques. Aquatic Physiotherapy (Hydrotherapy)

This class utilises the properties of water to assist in your recovery via an individually tailored exercise program designed by your Back in Motion Physiotherapist. All Aquatic Physiotherapy classes comprise both of group and individual work, with constant supervision from your Physiotherapist. Semi-Private Pilates Classes

An intensive Pilates workout program tailored to help you achieve your goals by using Pilates equipment such as the Reformer as well as incorporating floor work into the session. The class is a small group consisting of no more than 4, ensuring constant supervision and guidance from your Physiotherapist.   • Adrian Persi – Director/Principal Physiotherapist

    Adrian Persi – Director/Principal Physiotherapist

    Adrian (our ‘veteran’ physiotherapist) is the ultimate “go to” man when in need of some friendly advice, whether it is in regards to an injury, a personal situation, or simply his footy tips for the weekend.  Adrian leads an enthusiastic team and strives to offer all clients to the clinic the best service possible.

    Working with Back in Motion since 2005 has seen Adrian work in many different positions alongside his role at Wantirna South, including corporate physiotherapy within large organisations as well overseeing a number of Back In Motion practices; a testament to Adrian’s dedication to the Back in Motion Health Group, the profession and his client’s needs.

    Adrian is a new & proud dad to his princess Gia Loren Persi, born 6th October 2012.  Gia is the apple of her daddy’s eye – and also the spitting image of him…

    Nothing puts a bigger smile on Adrian’s face than seeing his old clients in the reception area and having a quick catch up, it definitely makes all of the hard work and long hours, WORTH IT!

  • Erin Ashby – Practice Manager

    Erin Ashby – Practice Manager

    Erin is the Practice Manager at Back in Motion, Wantirna South and definitely wears the badge with pride. She is highly skilled in all facets of the business and manages an energetic team of staff. Her previous experience in senior and managerial roles within Local Government and in the Real Estate industry gives her a very well rounded skill base to perform her role within our team and more importantly give our clients a great experience.

    Erin holds a Diploma of Business Administration & an Advanced Diploma of Business Management. She has also successfully completed Back in Motion’s emerging leadership program, Iceberg.

    When asked to describe her position at Back in Motion, Wantirna South, Erin proudly responds “...having a ball working with the best in the business!”

  • Robert Edwards - Clinical Services Coordinator (Senior Physiotherapist)

    Robert Edwards - Clinical Services Coordinator (Senior Physiotherapist)

    Rob graduated from Melbourne University and immediately jumped into employment with a prominent private practice in Camberwell and a large rehabilitation hospital. He is committed to achieving the highest results for his clients by emphasising a holistic approach and promoting exercise based rehabilitation and strengthening, he relishes the challenge of improving a person’s health, fitness and injury concerns. Rob has further extended his skills via courses in sports injuries and in particular, pilates & advanced dry needling.

    Rob is a pretty active guy who generally participates in a few events such as bike rides and fun runs to raise money for charity each year. Rob loves watching AFL especially the team he barracks for, CARLTON – but don’t hold that against him!

    Rob’s proactive and enthusiastic approach to all facets of the Back in Motion business has recently seen him being promoted to Clinical Service Co-ordinator (Senior Physio) where he will be actively involved with mentoring other staff and will be the key contact and coordinator for many of our contracts.

  • Lucy Chen - Clinical Mentor (Senior Physiotherapist)

    Lucy Chen - Clinical Mentor (Senior Physiotherapist)

    Lucy has a strong interest in Women’s Health and since completing her studies at Melbourne University she has taken great pride in coordinating our post and antenatal exercise classes. When not greeting her patients in the waiting room with a friendly smile, Lucy can be found doing the 1000 steps up to 6 times in a row(...!!!), working out at the gym or going for a run. Wow!  What an active girl!

    Lucy’s passion for further study and sharing her knowledge has seen her promoted to Clinical Mentor (Senior Physio) - her job now includes training and mentoring all new staff members and ensuring their further education in the future.

  • Ben Croxford - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Ben is an enthusiastic member of the Back in Motion, Wantirna South team. Prior to completing his studies at the University of Melbourne, he spent 3 months providing health care services to the people of Jakarta. He is also fluent in Bahasa Indonesia.

    Ben loves the great outdoors - whether it’s hiking, cycling, kayaking or snowboarding - and lets his competitive nature thrive with his footy and cricket. He also loves nothing more than going to the MCG on game day to watch the Essendon Bombers win!

    Away from his work as a Physio, Ben plays a variety of musical instruments including piano and bass guitar in a progressive metal band ‘aronora’ (check them out @ http://www.aronora.com!).

  • Anita Bir - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Anita Bir - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Anita is the Wantirna South pilates guru having attained the DMA Clinical Pilates Level 4 (the highest there is!). Since completing her studies at Melbourne University, she has been enrolling in courses left, right and centre to learn the utmost in order to offer her clients a well rounded and holistic approach.

    Anita is fluent in Hindi, Punjabi & Indonesian. Anita is an accomplished dancer and was even part of the principal dance group for the Indian segment of the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremony.  Having graduated in Indian Classical dance (Bharatanatyam) and Ballet, Anita has a keen interest in treating dance related injuries. She also conducts pre-screening dance assessments & pre-pointe ballet assessments.

    Anita is also currently working her way through a Masters of Physiotherapy with majors in Women’s Health & Musculoskeletal health at the University of Melbourne, due to complete early 2014.

  • Sally Naylor - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Sally Naylor - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Sally completed her Physiotherapy degree at LaTrobe University in Bundoora. She has a background playing Netball at state level.  Sally is still active in the athletics world – currently still competing on the track and in cross country season. 

    With her solid sporting history, Sally has experienced her fair share of injuries - this is what inspired her to become a Physiotherapist.

    Sally has furthered her knowledge and skill set by completing courses in Pilates & rehabilitation, shoulder biomechanics and spinal injuries.

    In her spare time, Sally likes to keep fit and eat healthy – but has admitted that she is a fan of fine dining and can often be found enjoying a meal at some of the most prestigious restaurants in Melbourne.

  • Michael Pellegrini - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Michael Pellegrini - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Michael left a career in scientific research (even after attaining a science degree!) to follow his true calling and study Physiotherapy at Monash University. 

    Michael has previously worked for a private rehabilitation hospital in Melbourne’s east before taking up our Clinical Associate position at Back in Motion Wantirna South. Being a competitive Tennis player gives Michael great insight to many sports injuries and he has a special interest in rehabilitating pilates & core strengthening.

    Michael is a one eyed Collingwood Magpies supporter (but please don’t hold that against him!) and in his time away from the clinic can be found cheering his team on from the sidelines.

  • Daryl Leong - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Daryl Leong - Clinical Associate (Physiotherapist)

    Daryl is a brilliant new addition to the Back in Motion team!  Originally from Malaysia, he completed his Physiotherapy studies at Monash University which included the opportunity to spend 15 weeks in Tasmania doing his physio rounds. Daryl is the ‘chilled out guy’ at the clinic, always up for a laugh, a chat or even a prank or two!

    Daryl has a keen interest in sport injury assessment and rehabilitation and incorporates his detailed knowledge of core stability and Pilates into his work.

    Daryl is an avid NBA fan - regularly checking the Chicago Bulls scores during work time – and also follows motorsport, tennis and Chelsea Football Club in the English Premier League.  He is yet to adopt an AFL team – he says he is open to suggestions (or bribery)!

  • Jo Foo - Receptionist

    Jo Foo - Receptionist

    Jo is the longest employee of the Back in Motion Wantirna South team, having started in 2004 as an office junior and now working as a senior member of the Administration team. She is always the first to offer to help out at other Back in Motion clinics during times of staff absences; it is this kind of attitude that makes her invaluable and a real client favorite.

    Jo lists travelling the world for 3 months, living it up in London, New York and partying in the Greek Islands as one of the highlights of her life.

    Jo has successfully completed a Bachelor of Exercise Science degree with Honors and backed it up by also completing her Masters of which included the testing of Asics running shoes.

    2013 marks a very special year for Jo, as she has just returned to University to become a PHYSIO! So, upon completion, we hope for her to make the transition from administration team member to PHYSIO! Congrats Jo!

    Erin first presented to Back In Motion as a patient, and basically never left! On any given day you can always find at least one of Erin’s family members in our clinic receiving Physiotherapy treatment or in a pilates class, they are now all honorary members of the Back In Motion team!
     
    Erin has successfully completed Diploma of Medical Administration and can more often than not, be found sharing a giggle in the reception area with our clients.

    Erin’s motto in life is simple, “everyone deserves music - sweet, sweet music!” and in her time away from work, she loves taking time out with her family and friends - and spends all of her money on tickets to music festivals and researching for her “next big overseas trip”!

  • Danica Macleod - Receptionist

    Danica Macleod - Receptionist

    Danica is the friendly voice on the other end of the phone, your welcoming first point of contact with our practice. Her positive outlook is contagious, and makes her a great asset to our team – especially after making the transition from patient of the clinic, to an employee and a part of the BIM family!

    Danica has a keen interest in all sports, especially swimming (she is also a part-time swimming teacher) and netball.

    Danica was previously employed as a full time Chiropractic Assistant but has gone back to university to study Nursing so she needed more flexible part-time hours. This is when we snapped her up, and the rest is history!

    ** RETURNED FROM MATERNITY LEAVE **
    Simone is the proud mummy of beautiful baby boy, Nate Michael Plunkett who was born on Australia Day 2012. 

    Baby Nate joins mum; Simone, dad; Michael and a menagerie of animal’s including two dogs, two cats & Stanley the snake in the Plunkett family.  As you can tell, Simone and her family have a great love for animals of all sorts which stems from her previous career as a vet nurse.

    We are so pleased to welcome Simone back to work – although it really was like she never went on maternity leave with all of the pilates classes and treatment sessions she came in for!

    Elyse Mehaffey - Receptionist

    We are proud to introduce you to Elyse, the newest member of the Back in Motion administration team. Having previously worked as a legal assistant/secretary on top of having her own business as a freelance make-up and hair artist (which she still does) she brings her passion for business administration and cheery client contact to the reception area where you will find her waiting to greet you.

    Elyse’s passion away from the practice is music. She attends many festivals and concerts throughout the year and enjoys nothing more than to rock out with her closest friends.
