Physio to compete at the Commonwealth Games

Published: 10 April 2014 - Business Updates

Last weekend Joel Pocklington, a physio at Actif (the workplace health arm of Back In Motion) won the Australian pole vaulting championships for the fourth year in a row (only two male pole vaulters have had a longer streak of wins!). This win means he is automatically given a place in the Australian Commonwealth Games team and will compete later this year in Glasgow, Scotland.

Joel jumped the qualifying height of 5.25 metres or more nine times this season making this his most successful season of his entire pole vaulting career. He set a personal best of 5.41m in January which makes him the 12th highest Australian pole vaulter all-time.

Joel has represented Australia a couple of times in the past but not at senior level, having made the final of the World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia in 2009.

Joel said “for me the key to performing well this season has been not jumping off any cliffs in the summer and getting hurt as a result” … which he does as a past time!

Congratulations Joel! We'll be right behind you the whole way to Glasgow!!
