Our Practice

Who we are

We provide physiotherapy, massage, clinical Pilates, and exercise and rehab to South Bank and surrounding suburbs including Brisbane. We have one-on-one and semi-private classes and because our services are delivered by physios, you can claim them on private health insurance with extras cover.

Why we're different

A "quick-fix" for your pain or injury might sound good, but over time is proven to be inconvenient, costly and ineffective in comparison to taking preventative measures. Our unique clinical approach, Results4Life, keeps you on track towards optimal lifelong physical health.

Our guarantee

We are committed to your satisfaction and delivering the very best in physiotherapy care, customer service and outcomes. If you are not 100% satisfied with your experience at Back In Motion, we will refund your money and deliver your next session free.

Our Service Offering

done Physiotherapy

Quick-fixes or shortcuts are not something we strive for during your consultation. The swift management of your pain and symptoms is only the first step our team will take to help you achieve lasting results.

We believe in getting the right result the first time so you can get back to what you love without the threat of re-injury.

Our focus is not only on offering talented physiotherapists, but also delivering a great physiotherapy experience.

You will be surprised at all the physical health benefits that come with sticking to your personal treatment plan including improved flexibility, mobility and strength.

done Clinical Pilates

We offer individual and small group clinical Pilates classes taught by qualified professionals and physiotherapists. Unlike group classes at a gym, our approach to Pilates is clinically proven and specifically tailored to your needs. These tailored exercises target problem areas ensuring greater results and minimising the risk of injury re-aggravation.

You will use a combination of specialised Pilates equipment including reformers and trapeze table complimented by floor-based exercises depending on your needs. This brings about better targeting and resistance as you progress in your Pilates program.

done Massage

When you get a massage from a physiotherapist you are benefiting from four plus years of dedicated university study on the human body.

Sporting clubs, athletes, and massage devotees see our expert physios and therapists for a reason: because we know your body and can identify the causes of aches, pains, and soreness, ensuring a better result every time.

A massage conducted by our physios will see a reduction in your aches and pains, whether caused by sport, injury or the stresses and strains of everyday life.

done Exercise and Rehab

Whether you’re looking to increase your fitness or get back into exercise after time off or injury, an exercise and rehabilitation session will get you off to a good start.

Our physiotherapists can design programs to cater to your every need including weight loss, injury rehabilitation, fitness and endurance training as well as strengthening and toning.

Your physio knows your body and has the scientific and clinical knowledge to ensure your workout is both safe and caters to your abilities and previous injury history.

done Custom Orthotics

When a small problem develops in your feet, a subtle change in the way you walk can cause a chain reaction that alters your posture and movement mechanics. The symptom of poor foot mechanics can include localised foot pain, bunions, arch or heel pain, leg or knee pain, hip or back pain – and even neck pain! Custom orthotics have been shown to correct these issues, giving you improved balance, posture, and general wellbeing.

done Podiatry

Our podiatrist is trained to assess, diagnose and treat foot and lower limb problems including skin and nail problems, injuries, problems with gait or walking, and foot complications related to medical conditions such as diabetes.

done Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal radial shockwave therapy is a noninvasive treatment for patients with tendon injuries that haven’t responded well to other treatments. Predominately used on plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, people with frozen shoulder, jumper’s knee (patella tendinitis), hip bursitis (greater trochanter pain syndrome), tennis and golfer’s elbow, Dupuytren’s contracture and shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome) have also responded well to treatment. It is also beneficial in the treatment of painful muscular trigger points. The machine works using low-frequency, acoustic shockwaves that are sent through injured tissue via a handheld device and a conductive gel. The treatment accelerates the body’s natural healing response, reduces pain through reduction of pain causing chemicals, and increases blood flow via formation of new blood vessels into the treated tissue. Three to five treatments at one-week intervals are typically recommended; most people would see benefits in a little as two to three sessions.

done Bodyflow Therapy

Bodyflow Therapy is a new and exciting electrotherapy designed to speed up the removal of swelling in the body. Endorsed and used by orthopedic surgeons and some of the biggest professional sporting organisations around the world, Bodyflow technology offers clients an exclusive opportunity to fasten their recovery when compared with other modalities and treatment. Bodyflow may also help when used on post-surgery swelling and serious sprains and strains to significantly reduce recovery and healing time. Bodyflow Therapy treatment is offered within our practice via a lager machine or a smaller take home machine which is available for hire from the practice. The rental of a portable device allows clients to continue their recovery in between physio visits in the comfort of their own home.

Daniëlle van Kol

Daniëlle van Kol

Daniëlle graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Applied Sciences Leiden in The Netherlands. She started working in private practice after graduation and gained experience with musculoskeletal, sports and neurological conditions. Besides her work at the practice, she was involved with several local soccer clubs for assessment and treatment of sports injuries. She was also the physiotherapist for the men’s local soccer selection teams and accompanied them at practice nights and on match days for over 5 years. Daniëlle has a passion for helping people return to the sport they love and prepare them to return at a competitive level.

In her spare time Daniëlle loves to play soccer herself, but she is also a keen cyclist and loves the outdoors.

Besides her passion for sports, Daniëlle completed professional development in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions. When she relocated to Perth in 2014 she gained further experience working with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Western Australia, where she worked with people with Multiple Sclerosis, Stroke, Motor Neurone Disease and Parkinson’s disease. Working in Perth taught her how important it is to help people improve and achieve maximum quality of life, by maintaining and improving their functional independence as much as possible.

Recently Daniëlle relocated to Brisbane where she returned to private practice working for Back in Motion South Bank. Danielle believes in an active approach with tailored exercise programs to help everyone achieve their specific individual goals related to their work, daily activities and hobbies or sports.

Damaris Simons

Damaris Simons

Damaris studied her bachelor degree at Curtin University in Perth, W.A. Since then Damaris has been employed predominantly within the private health sector, working in aged care, private practice and in corporate environments such as the University of Queensland. She also has several years’ experience working with amateur AFL and Soccer teams, thus her keen interest in sports physiotherapy. She has a particular interest in treating and rehabilitating knee and ankle injuries.

Damaris likes to incorporate a mix of hands-on physiotherapy techniques (may include manual therapy, soft tissue techniques and dry needling, amongst others) with exercise rehabilitation and self-management in her treatment sessions. She believes that educating her clients about their injury encourages them to take on a more active role in their treatment and rehab, which alongside hands-on physiotherapy leads to better patient outcomes.

As well as sports physiotherapy, Damaris also has an interest in vestibular physiotherapy. Vestibular physiotherapy is a niche area of physiotherapy that focuses on treating and rehabilitating ‘inner ear’ related disorders, such as BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). BPPV is more common than people realise, and often goes untreated or miss-diagnosed. Patients with BPPV will often experience vertigo, decreased balance and nausea, which can have a big impact on daily life. In most cases, Physio will provide great relief from these symptoms. Physiotherapists can also provide rehabilitation for a variety of other vestibular related disorders.

When she isn’t working, Damaris will be in the kitchen cooking or baking, out for a walk or cycle, or at the beach learning to surf.

Carl Bedard

Initially born and growing up in Canada Carl lived for the outdoors through camping, exploring and sports. He took that spirit with him to England playing for multiple sports teams and been part of scouts and air cadets.  Through his love of the outdoors he realised how important it is to look after your feet and legs, so at the age of 17 when living in the UK he had a decision to make on what to do in life. After a lot of thinking and through a placement with a physio he decided on podiatry.

He then graduated from Salford University  with a Bsc in Podiatry in 2010 and has been working within the field of Podiatry ever since, initially working in the NHS in London looking after high risk patients in a busy work environment to then working in a private practise in Manchester.

He has built up a large caseload of patients in private practise not only through his skills as a podiatrist but through his caring nature, wanting the best possible outcome for his patients.

He has now been given the opportunity to do exactly that at Back in Motion on Bribie Island. Bringing his skills and knowledge to a new surrounding and a new country. Whether it is foot health advice, an ingrowing toenail that has been persistent or you're just struggling to reach you feet and need general footcare he is there to do a thorough treatment. A couple common phrases when patients have left an appointment with him are “ I feel like I'm walking on air “ or “ am ready to run a marathon now”.

While already capable he is still looking to learn and progress in podiatry and feels Back in Motion as a company is the perfect place for this to take place. He is looking forward to the challenge ahead…….
