Compression Sleeves

Published: September 5, 2019

So you tore a muscle over the weekend playing sport or sprained a ligament stepping off a curb. Your physiotherapy treatment is going great but you’re still feeling unstable and stiff, and there’s still swelling in the area. You feel there’s something missing that you could be doing to aid your recovery.

You could be starting up a new sport, or increasing your weights at the gym, but unsure about how your joints and/or muscles will cope with the increased repetitive load.

At Back in Motion Richmond, we offer several kinds of compression sleeves including ankle, feet, elbow and knee sleeves.

Here are some benefits why you should consider using compression sleeves:

-          providing better circulation  by fighting the effects of gravity and increases the amount of deoxygenated blood flowing back to the heart
-          aid healing by allowing better blood flow in the area
-          stabilise muscles and/or joints by decreasing the amount of muscular vibration resulting in decreased fatigue
-          reduce impact to the joint or muscle
-          helps your body recover faster from an intense training session by reducing blood lactate levels (the ones that produce lactic acid)
-          enhance muscle performance by increasing oxygen uptake to working muscles

Compression wear not only helps in positions of activity but also static positions such as:
-          prevention of blood clots by assisting venous return (blood flow out of the area)
-          controls swelling in the area that may build up from an injury

Our physiotherapists are adept at prescribing compression wear to support your injury and help you recover quicker so you’re back on the field quicker, back to work stronger and performing better! Book now for your Free 20-minute Initial Assessment!
