Our Practice

Who we are

We provide physiotherapy, massage, clinical Pilates, and exercise and rehab to Blackburn and surrounding suburbs. We have one-on-one and semi-private classes and because our services are delivered by physiotherapists you can claim them on private health insurance with extras cover.

Why we're different

A "quick-fix" for your pain or injury might sound good, but over time is proven to be inconvenient, costly and ineffective in comparison to taking preventative measures. Our unique clinical approach, Results4Life, keeps you on track towards optimal lifelong physical health.

Our guarantee

We are committed to your satisfaction and delivering the very best in physiotherapy care, customer service and outcomes. If you are not 100% satisfied with your experience at Back In Motion, we will refund your money and deliver your next session free.

Our Service Offering

done Physiotherapy

Quick-fixes or shortcuts are not something we strive for during your consultation. The swift management of your pain and symptoms is only the first step our team will take to help you achieve lasting results.

We believe in getting the right result the first time so you can get back to what you love without the threat of re-injury.

Our focus is not only on offering talented physiotherapists, but also delivering a great physiotherapy experience.

You will be surprised at all the physical health benefits that come with sticking to your personal treatment plan including improved flexibility, mobility and strength.

done Clinical Pilates

We offer individual and small group clinical Pilates classes taught by qualified professionals and physiotherapists. Unlike group classes at a gym, our approach to Pilates is clinically proven and specifically tailored to your needs. These tailored exercises target problem areas ensuring greater results and minimising the risk of injury re-aggravation.

You will use a combination of specialised Pilates equipment including reformers and trapeze table complimented by floor-based exercises depending on your needs. This brings about better targeting and resistance as you progress in your Pilates program.

done Massage

When you get a massage from a physiotherapist you are benefiting from four plus years of dedicated university study on the human body.

Sporting clubs, athletes, and massage devotees see our expert physios and therapists for a reason: because we know your body and can identify the causes of aches, pains, and soreness, ensuring a better result every time.

A massage conducted by our physios will see a reduction in your aches and pains, whether caused by sport, injury or the stresses and strains of everyday life.

done Exercise and Rehab

Whether you’re looking to increase your fitness or get back into exercise after time off or injury, an exercise and rehabilitation session will get you off to a good start.

Our physiotherapists can design programs to cater to your every need including weight loss, injury rehabilitation, fitness and endurance training as well as strengthening and toning.

Your physio knows your body and has the scientific and clinical knowledge to ensure your workout is both safe and caters to your abilities and previous injury history.

done Custom Orthotics

When a small problem develops in your feet, a subtle change in the way you walk can cause a chain reaction that alters your posture and movement mechanics. The symptom of poor foot mechanics can include localised foot pain, bunions, arch or heel pain, leg or knee pain, hip or back pain – and even neck pain! Custom orthotics have been shown to correct these issues, giving you improved balance, posture, and general wellbeing.

done Aged Care Physiotherapy

We provide a range of physiotherapy services for seniors and residencies in the community. We support aged care facilities, supported residential services, and retirement villages. We can also visit clients in the privacy of their own home.

done Vibration Therapy

We offer side-alternating, high-frequency vibration therapy technology. You can experience results not only as treatment for an existing concern but as a preventative measure for a diverse range of health issues including back pain, falls prevention, core strength, and elite performance.

done Dry needling

Treating musculoskeletal injuries with acupuncture needles can be an effective form of treatment helping to reduce muscle tension, decrease pain levels, and trigger a healing response in injured tissues when the body has ceased healing. As opposed to acupuncture, dry needling works directly on the injured body part, not meridian or energy flows.

done GaitScan® Assessment

Back In Motion’s scientific GaitScan® assessment technology allows your physio to closely analyse your foot mechanics. This is done by measuring timing sequences, mapping foot pressure and providing an in-depth visual report that you can take home.

Using GaitScan®, your Back In Motion physiotherapist can then determine whether faulty foot function is the cause of your discomfort and whether custom orthotics will benefit you. If so, the results of your assessment are used to create custom orthotics moulded and manufactured specifically for your needs.

done Mums & Bubs

Our Mums and Bubs classes are designed to meet the needs of you and your new baby. You will enjoy a safe, rewarding and fun environment while regaining lost fitness and strength and interacting with other mothers and their babies. As these classes incorporate your bub, they provide a fantastic opportunity for them to play, interact and enhance their social skills.

done Mums In Motion

Prepare your body for the rigours of labour, improve your aerobic fitness, and reduce your recovery time in a fun, social atmosphere with other mums-to-be! Guided by your physio, this exercise class also includes education on back care, posture, and relaxation specific to pregnancy.

done Semi-Private Exercise and Rehab

If you're looking for an alternative to Pilates, you might like to explore semi-private exercise classes. These classes take no more than four participants which means you'll get lots of attention from the physio instructing the class. In a semi-private exercise class you'll undertake a supervised, full training program which will address any concerns you may have in regards to exercise technique, motivation, accountability and exercise progression.

done Semi-Private Pilates

Once you have completed a prescribed series of one-on-one Pilates sessions, your physio may recommend you commence semi-private Pilates classes. These classes take a maximum of four participants. You'll receive guidance and attention from the physiotherapist instructing the class in accordance with your individual Pilates program. Your program may include a combination of mat and reformer work.

done Pilates In Motion

Pilates In Motion is an advanced clinical Pilates class guided by a physiotherapist. Once you have progressed from individual and semi-private Pilates, you’ll be able to join Pilates In Motion classes allowing you to develop your practice and challenge your body.

done Women’s Health

We provide effective, tailored programs to support women during all stages of their lives. Talk to us about pregnancy and post-natal care, fitness and exercise classes; pelvic floor weakness, pain and incontinence; and musculoskeletal conditions.

Troy Sandley

Physiotherapist

Troy’s love for Physiotherapy was inevitable, growing up in a household of healthcare professionals. Prior to his Physiotherapy endeavours, he lived in the U.S.A. playing College basketball in Colorado, where he was plagued by a string of injuries, further developing his passion for the profession. He is focused on the holistic health and well-being of others, particularly those presenting with sporting injuries and general orthopaedic conditions. In order to achieve great long-term results, Troy incorporates many treatment modalities including manual therapy, dry needling, Pilates, and individualised exercise programs.

He still picks up the basketball from time-to-time as a hobby, goes to the gym, and enjoys any chance to get away to the beach with his friends and family. However, having a Chiropractic father sets the scene for plenty of dinner table banter.

Alvin has a real passion for Physiotherapy and all things related to health and wellness. Of particular interest is body strength and conditioning and, with Alvin competing personally in national level power lifting, he likes to apply these skills to develop tailored training and rehab programs for clients both post injury and for fitness. Alvin has also completed advanced dry needling training which he regularly applies clinically to treat a range of pain and function related disorders.

Outside of work, Alvin can often be found at the gym or closely monitoring his calorie and carbohydrate intake in preparation for this next event. This, however, doesn't mean that you won’t at times find him in the Pancake Paler satisfying his late night cravings!

Tom joined our team in 2017 after gaining valuable experience in the Epworth health care system. Growing up in country Victoria, a passion for rehabilitation was sparked at a young age through various sporting injuries and the frustration that these brought. This naturally lead to Tom pursuing a career in physiotherapy and completing a Bachelor of Health Sciences and Masters of Physiotherapy practise.

Collaborating with people to not only return to pre-injury levels but excel beyond forms the foundation of Tom’s care. Hailing from a family full of teachers Tom values the importance of education, allowing individuals to understand the rehabilitation process. In his experience this educational approach in line with manual therapy and other treatment modalities leads to long lasting benefits.

In his spare time Tom enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially his partner Grace, travelling and playing football for the Seymour Football Netball club. Tom also undertakes the occasional eating challenge, once finishing 1kg of steak and 1kg of chips and veggies in less than 30 minutes!

James Hanley

Physiotherapist

James’ passion for Physiotherapy began from an early age. His participation in multiple sports (footy, soccer, tennis and hockey) from childhood to adolescence led to many sporting injuries, and subsequently many physiotherapy visits. This is where he gained a strong desire to not only understand the injuries occurring, but manage them correctly through rehabilitation that would enable long term success and injury prevention.

This desire carried into later years where James completed his Master of Physiotherapy Practice at La Trobe University. His experience in the Eastern Health Care system has helped shape him into the Physiotherapist he is today. James gains genuine satisfaction in helping his client truly understand their condition and provide a long term solution to the issue at hand. High quality manual therapy combined with successful exercise rehabilitation and genuine care are a few things you can expect from James as your Physiotherapist.

James has been a local boy within the Blackburn community for most of his life. When he’s not injured himself, he plays for the Blackburn Football Club where he’s been selling candy since he was 9 years old! James loves spending his spare time with friends attending a variety of live music and sporting events.
