The second part of our “Did you know” series involves discussion around our Free Initial Assessment!
What is the Free Initial Assessment?
The Free Initial Assessment is designed to have a full physiotherapy or exercise physiology assessment of your complaint. As the name suggests, this part is free! This helps to take away a barrier to seek treatment. Sometimes, patients aren't sure if physiotherapy can help. Sometimes people just want to know what is wrong and what the options are. Sometimes people want a second opinion. Whatever the reason, we are happy to help.
What can I expect in the Free Initial Assessment?
This 20 minute appointment involves a discussion of your complaint, where the physiotherapist or exercise physiologist will ask questions and listen to your story and the reason you are seeking help. From here, a series of tests will be performed to try and narrow down what exactly is causing your complaint. This will often result in a diagnosis, which will be discussed in full with you. From here, you will be told what our recommendations are for further steps. This may be a referral to your GP, or to have a scan (x-ray, CT, ultrasound, MRI), or it may involve physiotherapy or exercise physiology treatment. Sometimes, it may just involve some encouragement that all is ok! We will also discuss an early treatment plan and prognosis for your complaint and answer any questions that you may have so that you are fully aware of what is wrong, why it is wrong, what can be done to address it and how long it will take.
What happens after the Free Initial Assessment?
That is up to you! Our admin team will book in extra time for a paid treatment consult following the Free Initial Assessment so that we can commence treatment straight away if you wanted to. Sometimes, you may want to wait and think it over. Sometimes, you may need to see another health professional. There is no obligation to go ahead with treatment if you don't want to - but please be sure to let us know so that we can inform our admin team.
