Summer is here!

Published: December 4, 2020

The sun is out, the days are longer - the weather warmer, and people ditch the shoes and opt for thongs, sandals, jandals or nothing at all.

Our feet spend so much time in shoes at work and throughout winter, that often the holidays and time down at the beach means that they are unsupported. While the the body should adapt and be able to sustain this, too much too soon can often result in pain.

Plantar fasciitis, plantar fasciopathy or plantar heel pain are terms used to describe the common and very painful and stubborn pain in the arch of the foot. This pain results from an aggravation or overuse of the plantar fascia, a tough connective tissue that helps to support the long arch in the foot, normal mechanics of the foot and creates effeciency and load transfer in gait.

There are many ways to manage plantar fasciitis, which will be the topic of another post, however one important way of managing this condition is to offload the plantar fascia and allow it time to heal. The best way to offload this structure is with appropriate footwear.

Appropriate footwear can range from custom shoes, to custom orthotics, to off the shelf orthotics and quality fitting shoes. Thongs are rarely an option, which makes this problem so prevelant in summer.

That is until now. Archies are an Australian designed and made thong that looks like a normal thong, but possesses the traits of an orthotic that best supports your feet (such as an elevated heel, arch support, straps that fit well and being soft underfoot).

If you had foot pain last summer, or wear orthotics and are limited with your choices this summer, please give us a call on 95801985 or book online to arrange a free assessment and foot fitting for this great idea.
