Surgery

Published: May 19, 2021

Surgeon's are highly skilled and highly trained professionals who can do amazing things. They are often the first port of call for significant injuries (and even not so significant injuries) and can get people back to their daily living.

However, with the media coverage around elite sport, there is a consensus that surgeon's are the one stop shop. Whilst this is certainly true for many conditions, there is a growing body of research to show that conservative management (physio) can produce equivalent results to surgery, with much lower risk and much cheaper. This is not to say that physio is always the way to go, but it also highlights that there are other options outside of surgery.

How do I know if surgery or physio will be the best way?

The best thing you can do is listen. Listen to your GP, surgeon and physio. A good surgeon will always preference physio first if it is appropriate, whereas other surgeon's will give you no other option. We work with some fantastic surgeons and if you have any questions or want a second opinion, we have a long list of surgeon's that you will be able to see. It might be, that surgery is the best option. It might be that physio is the best option. None the less - listening is very important to deciding what is best for you.

Do you work with surgeons?

Yes we do - we have fantastic contacts from around the area and in Melbourne for quality orthopaedic surgeons who will give you the best options for management. We have connections for:

  • Spinal surgery
  • Shoulder
  • Upper limb
  • Hip
  • Knee
  • Foot and Ankle

We have even done post operative rehab protocols for some surgeons that are used by other physios.

If you are facing surgery, or would like to discuss some options - please feel free to give us a call on 9580 1985 and we can discuss physio, and put you in touch with a second surgical opinion.
