Spotlight on Women’s Health

Throughout the course of the year we thought we would provide some information on all the things that our great Physios can treat and do with our specialised training. We are a team of varied experience and interests so what better way than to showcase our knowledge by putting a spotlight on something new each month!

With International Women’s Day just gone, we thought it a great time to put a spotlight on Women’s Health.

Women’s health related physiotherapy includes the treatment and management of conditions that are particular to women, just like the name suggests! It can include, but is not limited to the following;

  • Pelvic Floor Related Conditions
    • Incontinence – stress/ urgency/ mixed
    • Overactive Bladder
    • Prolapse/ symptoms of prolapse
    • Bowel related Disorders – Chronic Constipation, IBS
    • Chronic Pelvic Pain – Vulvodynia, Vaginismus, Dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), Hypertonic Pelvic floor
  • Pregnancy Related Conditions

    • Incontinence
    • Pelvic Girdle Pain/ Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction/ SIJ dysfunction/ Combination of all
    • Low Back Pain
    • Thoracic Pain
    • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
    • Vulval Varicosities
  • Menopause/ Post-Menopausal Related Musculoskeletal Disorders

    • Osteopaenia
    • Osteoporosis
  • Gynaecological Cancers/ Breast Cancer

As you can see, there is a vast list of conditions that Physiotherapists can treat that are particular to all women! If you are unsure whether any of these conditions listed above are specific to your symptoms, then we recommend getting in touch with one of our admin team who can best direct your query. Googling exercises or management for these conditions can sometimes lead to you doing the wrong thing or something incorrectly, and can cause more problems down the track so we would advise that in this instance, it’s really best to leave it to the experts!

For some of these conditions, specialised training will have been completed to ensure that the correct diagnosis and management is provided. Brooke, our Director, has over 15 years’ experience in this area specifically and is Post Graduate trained in Continence and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy, has completed her ONERO™ training for Osteoporosis, and is also a Cancer Rehabilitation Physiotherapist. She works Monday – Friday and is available for appointments by phone only, so please call 9602 3332 if you’d like more information.
