Why your physio may choose to use taping

Taping most used as an adjunct or temporary to protect the existing injury. The goals with taping are to restrict the movement of injured joints, soft tissue compression to reduce swelling, support anatomical structures, and as protection from re-injury.

Intended Purpose and Effect of Taping Techniques

Different types of tape

  • Rigid tape used when person or athlete needs to prevent joint movements. Mostly used in sports environment. This is rigid style taping.
  • Elastic tape when needs support as well as some movements.
  • Kinesiology tape- used when needs dynamical assistance to muscles function.
